Norma Kerby: Northwest Amphibian Monitoring Program

Dr. Norma Kerby is a Terrace-based writer, environmental consultant, and the Coordinator of the Northwest BC Reptile and Amphibian Monitoring Program. Her passions include amphibians, natural ecosystems, sustainable Living and adaptations of wildlife and people to northern BC. She occasionally writes poetry about the North’s uncertain future. Part of the Gardens and Green Spaces lecture series. Free and open to everyone.

Since 2011, volunteers with the NWBC Amphibian Monitoring Program have been monitoring amphibians from Dease Lake to Fort St. James, and along Highway 16 to Prince Rupert and Kitimat. over the last seven years, interesting trends in amphibian distributions have been recorded in this successful citizen science program. Surprising aspects of the ecology of northern amphibians have important ramifications in the management of amphibian habitats.
