Assistant Curator Intern Position

$23.00/hour | 37.5 hours/week | 18 weeks | position subject to funding

Heritage Park Museum is seeking a college/university graduate for an eighteen-week contract during the Summer and Fall of 2024. This position will entail working directly with artifacts, using organizational systems, museum event planning and shadowing the curator. Throughout the internship, the goal is for the intern to gain a comprehensive understanding of curator responsibilities and establish a foundation in museum collection management. The ideal candidate would have graduated from a program related to history, museums, education, First Nations studies, archaeology, or a similar field.

The position ideally begins on July 2, 2024 and ends on November 5, 2024. The start date of this position can be flexible, with the possibility of an extension into the winter if all parties agree to do so.

Duties:

  • Cataloguing artifacts
  • Helping to create new museum exhibits
  • Re-organizing exhibits and storage spaces
  • Historical research
  • Accessioning/deaccessioning artifacts
  • Shadowing the curator
  • Helping to organize events
  • General museum tasks and maintenance
