The Marketing and Event Coordinator will plan and oversee a dynamic season at Heritage Park Museum. The position will offer a student interested in marketing and heritage the opportunity to create events, develop networks, and create a short-term marketing plan. S/he will be responsible for all special events at the museum, most notably the Canada Day Celebrations, the Summer Arts Festival, Riverboat Days Museum Workshops, and biweekly Senior’s Teas. The student will utilise creative solutions to increase visitation, targeting both tourists and residents with promotional activities and materials. The student will enjoy a great deal of flexibility in the implementation of his or her ideas, and will develop specific career-related skills and experience that will assist in his or her eventual career.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about marketing, museums, and community events. Students with demonstrated experience in event planning or promotion will be given priority, though all interested candidates are encouraged to apply. The wage is $13.00 an hour, 37.5 hours per week, from 15 May to 31 August. Applicants must be between 16 and 30 years of age, and must be full-time students intending to return to school full time in the fall.

Winter Hours

Heritage Park Museum is generally open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday during the winter season. It will be closed sporadically for off-site errands and meetings, so please call 250-635-4546 to book a site visit in advance.

Heritage Park Museum is now open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week. Come in for a guided tour or for a self-guided look around.

Canada Day 2011

Our annual Canada Day Celebrations will be taking place Friday July 1st. Come out to Heritage Park with your family and friends for a day filled with spectacular events, great food, games and much more. There will be horse rides, children’s games, a musicians’ stage, chainsaw carvings, First Nations dancers, a salmon barbecue, the singing of O’ Canada, pipes and drums, as well as a silent auction and birthday cake. Historical demonstrations include natural dyeing, blacksmithing, and horse logging.

Teddy Bear Picnic

Join us at Heritage Park for a fun afternoon of singing, colouring and face painting.

Sing-alongs, story telling and some good old-fashioned fun and games will mark the beginning of what will be a great summer. Juice and water will be supplied but please bring along a packed lunch, picnic blanket, and of course, your favourite teddy bear.

With Spring arriving it bought along a new employee to Heritage Park. We are pleased to present Kelsey Wiebe as our new Curator. The Park will be opening on May 15, 2011, we look forward to seeing both , familar and new faces once again this year.

Heritage Day Celebration FEB 21, 2011 to Friday February 25, 2011..Terrace “Little Townsite/Big Celebration”. was a big success . The interest generated by the public was encouraging. Many people came out to view our Heritage Displays – Thank you to everyone for your support.

City Archives (situated in the Skeena Mall) is asking anyone that may have old photos that they would like to loan or donate to please contact us..Local history along with the photo would be an asset. Heritage Park Museum is now located at 320-4741 Lakelse Ave in the Skeena Mall, hours are 10:30 am -4:30pm. We had our war exhibit set up for Remembrance day to pay tribute to all enlisted men (past and present) We welcome everyone to drop in and view our artefacts.

We are so excited to have our new website up and running! A HUGE THANKS to Adele Kirwer of www.blissfulgirl.com and Brandon Johnson of www.spadewerk.com for all their hard work, creative ideas and design. Not to mention making the site easy enough for me to update. I encourage you to check out their sites.

The new site has a great Events Calendar to keep our community and visitors up-to-date with all the happenings at Heritage Park Museum.

As Curator, I’ll be blogging regularly about all things related to the museum and information about what you can do to help preserve our heritage. There will be tips, workshops and more with information on what you should or should not do to best conserve historical objects.
