Heritage Park Welcomes Songs for Canada Performance
On Tuesday, August 4th Heritage Park will host a very special “Canadian” music event. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and join us for a B-B-Que and evening of great entertainment in the Park! Doors open at 6:00, and the show starts at 7:00 pm. The evening’s performer will be John Spearn, whose 2009 Songs for Canada Tour will be taking him throughout British Columbia for numerous performances this summer. John has toured extensively across Canada, paying tribute to Canadians wherever he goes with his original, nationally acclaimed, and multiple-award nominated ballads and stories.
As one of Canada’s most “asked-to-come-back” talents John Spearn offers a feast of timeless, telling tribute and profound lyric…from one songwriter and multiple award nominee who has performed at festivals on all three shores of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic Oceans, and countless places in between.
John Spearn is Canadianafolkrootsceltic.Capture all these influences as you thread through his rich vocals, scintillating guitar mastery, and on-stage moxie. This is pure unplugged art…there’s no paint-by-number here. Three nationally-acclaimed, grant-supported CD’s Northern Sightlines (1999), Canada Songs (2002), and the new off-the-floor Lonely Heroes (2009) transcend him as a must-see festival performer and workshop host.
Here we have it…a true foot-stompin’, heart-grabbin’ troubadour: forgotten but deserving heroes, the humility and humour in our international image, and stories that need to be told. To check out some of John’s music go to: www.myspace.com/johnspearn

Date: April 1, 2009
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: REM Lee Theatre
Cost:$15.00 (Adults) $10.00 (Students & Seniors) Free (Childern under 10)
For the second year in a row Heritage Park Museum brings Barkerville’s Theatre Royal to town for a night of old-fashion family entertainment. On April 1, 2009 Barkerville’s Historic Town’s popular Theatre Royal cast will perform on the REM Lee stage in Terrace. Doors open at 7:00pm and the show starts at 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased from the George Little House, Don Diego’s and at the door. The cost is $15.00 for an adult and $10.00 for seniors and students.
‘The Legacy Tour Barkerville or Bust’ includes story, song and humour. The show focuses on material actually sung on the stage of the Theatre Royal, Barkerville. The Theatre was built in 1869, right after the Great Fire of 1868, but before that time performances were held in the Parlour Saloon. The music includes tunes that were popular as BC was entering Confederation, stories that tell the story of Barkerville.
It also moves into the later years of the Theatre with rollicking songs and humour associated with the great British Music Hall era.
At the performance the Barkerville group will have a computer database and complete record of early mining licences where theatre goers will be able to search out whether their ancestors or grandparent’s were in the Barkerville / Williams Creek area during the 1860’s gold rush.
Visitors will also be able to sign up for Heritage Park Museum Memberships, and receive Museletter the Park’s quarterly newsletter. Lucky theatre goers will win a year membership, as well as door prizes during the intermissions.
